I recently picked up Peeps Marshmallow Rice Krispies Treats Chicks, and first I want to say that I know there’s generally a love/hate thing with Peeps. Some people really love Peeps, and others want nothing to do with them, and I totally get that. Depending on which camp you’re in, my opinion may not sway yours one way or the other.
I myself don’t make a habit of buying Peeps because I generally don’t have a craving for them. That said, I have to give them credit, when credit is due. Peeps does a great job of staying relevant and switching things up with new flavors and collaborations. And honestly, if they were all bad, they wouldn’t still be around, now would they?
So I picked up a pack of Peeps Marshmallow Rice Krispies Treats Chicks to see what I’d think.
I was really hoping to get that classic Rice Krispies Treats flavor of sweet marshmallow and toasted rice. You know exactly what I’m talking about, unless you’ve never had a Rice Krispies Treat. And if that’s the case, what are you doing with your life? Unless you have an allergy, then completely understandable. Are Rice Krispies Treats delicious enough to risk your health? Perhaps, but I certainly wouldn’t recommend it unless you know what you’re doing.
So How Do Peeps Marshmallow Rice Krispies Treats Chicks Actually Taste?
I took a bite and the first thing I noticed was the classic Peeps texture from the sugar coating. Fresh, soft, gooey, and crunchy only from the sugar coating. Classic Peeps through and through. Then the flavor. After my first bite, and then my second, I was really trying to be conscious of the flavor profile. Really searching for that classic toasted rice and marshmallow combo. And… it just wasn’t there. All I could taste was marshmallow. It wasn’t bad, it was sweet and enjoyable, but without the toasted rice flavor it’s just not a Rice Krispies Treat.
“It’s a Peep wearing a Rice Krispies Treats costume. Cute idea, but the costume doesn’t quite fit.”
Was I let down? Maybe a little. But I wasn’t going into this expecting it to rock my socks off. Peeps are Peeps, and like I said at the start, you either love em or it’s a hard pass. At $1.52 it was absolutely worth giving it a try. If you’ve tried Peeps Marshmallow Rice Krispies Treats Chicks, I would love to hear what you think in the comments below!
