Reese’s Spring Sprinkles Big Cup Review

I recently picked up the Reese’s Spring Sprinkles Big Cup and all I could think was, why not?

Alright, let’s talk Reese’s for a second. If you grew up in America, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups need absolutely no introduction. They’re one of those classic favorites that show up around every holiday without fail. Finding one after trick or treating? Yes please. Spotting a Reese’s peanut butter egg in your Easter basket? Even better. Personally, the peanut butter egg might be one of my all time favorites from Reese’s. There’s just something about that higher peanut butter to chocolate ratio that hits different.

But up until today I had actually never tried one of the Big Cup varieties, and when I spotted the Spring Sprinkles version at the store I figured it was worth a shot.

So What Exactly Is the Reese’s Spring Sprinkles Big Cup?

The Spring Sprinkles Big Cup is one of Reese’s oversized peanut butter cups with a twist, colorful crunchy candies mixed inside. Think of it as Reese’s meets sprinkles. On paper that sounds kind of fun. In practice, well, let’s get into it.

Before I dive in I do want to mention something. There was a somewhat recent controversy where the grandson of the founder of Reese’s spoke out about the company changing its original recipe. Honestly, thinking about it, I’m not sure if it’s just in my head or if I was actually picking up on something, but I do feel like Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups have tasted a little different over the years. Make of that what you will.

The Taste

Opening the package, you can immediately see this is a plus size Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup. The classic shape is there, just bigger. I took a bite and noticed the colorful crunchy candies right away.

Here’s my honest take, I was not a huge fan of the candies. I can’t say they completely ruined the experience, but they didn’t exactly add anything either. The softness of the peanut butter and chocolate is kind of the whole point of a Reese’s cup, and the crunchy candies felt like a contrast that didn’t really belong. Not a bad contrast exactly, just an unnecessary one. It was one of those situations where you notice they’re there but find yourself wondering why.

“The sprinkles showed up to the party uninvited. Not rude, just… why are you here?”

Did I enjoy it overall? It was okay. Would I buy it again? Honestly, I can’t imagine that I would. There are too many other Reese’s options I’d reach for first, starting with that peanut butter egg.

But hey, that’s just me! I’d love to hear what you think about the Reese’s Spring Sprinkles Big Cup in the comments below.
